Final voyage

The funeral took place this week of Chris Hunter, one of the most respected FE principals, who was in charge of Glasgow College of Nautical Studies.

The 61-year-old, who spent his early career as a deck officer and rose to become deputy personnel manager with Cunard before switching to training and education, died at his desk just before Christmas.

Mr Hunter had been principal since 1991 and, at the time of his death, chaired the board of the Scottish Further Education Unit.
