SPORTSCORE, which provides an instant results service for football, netball, hockey, basketball rugby union and league, has had more than 1,000 teams sign on since it was launched by last week.

More than 600 fixtures and almost 200 match reports have been filed so far.

As soon as a match ends, teachers or pupils can input results and a match report directly on to their school's home page on Sportscore, which, like Learnfree, is backed by The TES.

The new service is supported by the Youth Sport Trust charity and the National Council for School Sport, which represents 31 associations.

Estelle Morris, education minister, said: "This is a fantastic resource for schools and means that pupils have another way of celebrating their sporting achievements. It will also encourage healthy competition between local schools."
