Football top school sport

Football's grip on national life was confirmed this week as figures showed it was offered in 97 per cent of state schools. Cricket, in 85 per cent of schools was left trailing in its wake. But what the Government called the first comprehensive survey of school sport also showed that children are offered an increasingly wide range of games to play. The survey of 6,500 schools shows that schools offered on average 14 sports from badminton to swimming.
