Footballing lessons

5th November 2004 at 00:00
The graphic novel series 4 Aces, with its theme of a young footballer's rise to stardom, is popular with boys in Years 78. A series of online lesson plans help teachers get young readers thinking about goals in literacy as well as on the fictional field of play. Some arise directly from the books themselves, with attention drawn to layout, the creation of suspense and the relation of text to images. Others invite trainee commentators to try out their skills or take the role of a manager writing in the match programme.
