Margaret Leek has been playgroup leader for 17 years in the hall adjoining Elmsett C of E primary near Ipswich, Suffolk Remember nursery vouchers and all the playgroups which didn't survive that initiative? Well, Elmsett not only kept its playgroup but established a thriving partnership with the school through an early-years unit. Headteacher Paul Marshall nominated Margaret Leek for being the lynchpin who made te unit happen, and for working so willingly, often as a volunteer. "She's given time, effort and commit-ment and is just one of life's givers," he says.
