Friday Hero

5th January 2001 at 00:00
We start the new year with extra goodies for brilliant teachers and all those other people who make our schools work even better. From this week a bottle of champagne and a box of Belgian chocolates will be delivered to the Friday Hero's school - that's as well as the Mamp;S flowers with which we launched Friday magazine two years ago.

Our first hero of 2001 is Gill Hodge, assistant headteacher at King's Manor community school in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. The champagne, chocolates and flower come with a big thank you from all her friends and colleagues in the staffroom. Claire Barr, a PE teacher who nominated Gill, says she's a wonderful colleague - ever-supportive, dynamic and enthusiastic. "When we've had a bad lesson, bad day or bad week her door is always open."

Please send the name of your Friday Hero - and why he or she should get our goodies - to Sarah Bayliss, Friday magazine, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX, or email
