Get back ... band plays on the roof to recruit

The Beatles did it and U2 copied them, so playing the rooftop gig is about as rock'n'roll as it gets.

Small wonder then that two musicians from Leicester College grabbed the chance when offered the top of the Abbey Park Campus building as a venue.

Michael Vickers and Adrian Byrne, aka "Broken Fanclub", played a 20-minute set on top of the four-storey building in front of a 40-strong audience as part of a summer recruitment campaign.

Lesley Pilling, marketing and communications manager at the college, said: "Someone in the office was joking about a rooftop gig at Abbey Park Campus - making the link with the Beatles and Abbey Road - and we thought `why not?'"

Michael, who like Adrian has just completed the first year of his performing musician course, said: "It was special being up there."

The gig was recorded by the local Takeover Radio, which plans to broadcast it within the next few weeks.
