Gove gets it right

25th January 2013 at 00:00

As a recently retired headteacher and national executive member of the NASUWT teaching union, I am belatedly ecstatic for my current headteacher colleagues that they will have the power to determine the pay of their outstanding teachers and those who need a rocket up their behinds to perform well in our classrooms. Well done, Michael Gove. It's a pity for me that it has happened at the end of my 30 years in education. Better late than never, though. Drinks all round, colleagues.

Anthony Callaghan, Retired headteacher, Norwich.
