Government lets its own red tape be policed
The suggestion follows a row which forced the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers to issue its own report.
A pilot project will appoint local councils as gatekeepers to monitor circulars and other documents. One suggestion is that Government documents be coded. Information about the sort of document, who should read it and what action would be required would be written on the cover.
In a letter to Ms Morris, Nigel de Gruchy, NASUWT general secretary, said that the group had made some helpful suggestions, but its recommendations were "weak in terms of prescribing remedies which would impact meaningfully upon the teacher in the classroom".
