Governors need more teachers;Letter

26th February 1999 at 00:00
I am a recently elected teacher- governor in a Wiltshire primary.

The number of teachers on governing bodies is to be reduced from two to one to be replaced by a member of support staff.

I fully agree that support staff should be included but I am appalled at the reduction in teacher-governors.

If governors are to be effective in their important role of raising standards, then they need input from the only people in school who have first hand experience of teaching children - teachers.
