Comments from the SHANAHT recruitment survey:

Primary head: "As the retiring headteacher, I have decided that the paperwork mountain has grown to the extent that it now ruins the real work of a head (the pressure of Ofsted, ongoing new initiatives)."

Primary head: "Stress of job and unrealistic targets had become unbearable in a school recognised by Ofsted as a good school with good leadership. I am burned out."

Primary head: "The governors want Superman or Wonderwoman."

Primary head at school appointing deputy: "I now have no one and I am getting stressed! I have decided to retire in December and let the head find their own deputy!

Secondary head at school appointing assistant head: "This was the best field I have had for a couple of years for any post I have advertised."
