Graham Donaldson's comments to secondary heads to beware "snake-oil salesmen" (TESS, November 24) brought to mind a prescient piece of writing in these pages, as far back as December 2004.

Our glimpse into future educational TV schedules for the following year alerted us to "an alarming documentary" on one of the fastest-growing groups of educators: the Motivators, who fly into town with their "sexy mix of upmarket motivational messages" and fly out again, looking for the next education authority "foolish enough to believe that snake-oil still works".
