Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes has opened a state-of-the-art cookery suite at Queenswood School in Potters Bar. The facility includes an overhead television monitor for demonstrations, movable workstations, induction hobs and professional ovens. It has enabled girls at the 430-pupil independent day and boarding school to take cookery lessons, which had been missing from the timetable for several years.

Jayne Lee, practical cookery teacher, said: "Food is a great area of interest at the school and the enthusiasm of the girls has been phenomenal."

Opening the suite earlier this month, Mr Rhodes, who has earned five Michelin stars in his career, said: "Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life and I am so proud and privileged to be here."

The new suite, which was installed last term, has been named Haute Quisine and has been used to host an Italian supper evening for school parents and friends, as well as teach students. HW.
