Holding out for a bushy-tailed hero

26th November 2004 at 00:00
It's not every day they advertise for a superhero, but City of Nottingham council want a "diplomatic, approachable and sensitive" individual to fill the "large squirrel costume" of bushy-tailed crusader Cyril the Squirrel, known city-wide for his devotion to promoting good eating among school pupils.

After the incumbent, a school caretaker, retired at the start of the summer, a temporary Cyril from Nottingham catering services department has been holding the fort. Due to her diminutive frame, however, she has had trouble filling the huge costume and Cyril has been looking a bit baggy round the knees, not ideal for a paragon of health and fitness.

Fortunately, 11 wannabes had responded to the ad when we checked on Tuesday. Two "incredibly hot" costumes, the princely sum of pound;6.05 an hour and the use of a green council van await the chosen one!
