Senior school managers and aspiring heads of department will be able to apply for interest-free loans of up to pound;100,000 to buy homes from next month. The pound;690 million programme to help teachers and other public-service workers afford homes in London and the South-east was announced this week by John Prescott, deputy prime minister. Other teachers will be able to apply for interest-free loans of at least 25 per cent of the value of their property, with a limit of pound;50,000.
