When former maths teacher Ian Fisher left the profession after 15 years teaching in Bolton and Dudley, he had dreams of producing branded maths worksheets and even attracted interest from a publisher. But then economic reality set in, companies floundered and once-keen sponsors suddenly had other priorities.
But Mr Fisher didn't give up. He believed there was a market for innovative maths worksheets, so he set up his self-financed business online.
10ticks is now supplying schools with national curriculum-matched worksheets for levels 4,5 and 6 of the Year 7 framework. He is working on level 7 and 8 worksheets, which should be ready by Easter.
A 40-page free sample, taken from the level 4 pack, is available wen you register with the site. If you like what you see, you can set up an account to download the files from www.10ticks.co.uk. Each complete level has a minimum of 240 sheets. Individual packs cost as little as pound;8 (pound;12 if supplied on CD-Rom) and the full set for each level costs pound;48-pound;60.
Ian Fisher wants to expand the site, and teachers with their own original worksheets could have their work included in one of the packs available for sale. 10ticks also hopes to increase the range of subjects on offer, so teachers who think they have good ideas should be digging out their worksheets now. If your ideas impress, you could be heading up a new service. Send all worksheet ideas to: opportunities@ 10ticks.co.uk
