IDEAS FOR WORSHIP. Folens Assembly File. By Elizabeth Peirce. Folens. pound;29.95

ASSEMBLY MUSIC AND SONGS. Folens. pound;9.99

Folens Assembly File comes in an A4 ring-bound folder and provides 36 primary school assemblies, each on a removable four-page card pull out. This makes them convenient for taking into assembly, or home for preparation.

Assemblies are grouped in six themes (relationships, celeb-rations, war and peace, the environment, questions and issues and people) covering the usual range of topics such as serving others, jealousy, kindness to animals and religious festivals. Most of the assemblies are, correctly, broadly Christian, but some address other faiths - one on Ghandi (with a Hindu prayer) and Guru Nanak, founder of Sikhism, for instance.

Each assembly starts with a drama, story or interactive activity. This is followed by a prayer and "reflection" and a hymn or song. There are suggestions for questions and ideas for developing the theme. At least one page of each pull-out is a poem, illustration or diagram for copying as an overhead projector transparency.

The 15-minute assemblies are well thought out. Their content, brisk pace and interactive nature will keep children attentive and involved. Music and words for suggested songs and hymns are in the separate book Assembly Music and Songs.
