A heidie who knows his football can always be relied upon to brighten up the dullest of subjects.

Thus Ian Lamont of Alva Academy writes in the latest "Higher Still" newsletter: "Both our teachers' ability to cope with Higher Still developments and our national football team's survival in France rely on effective teamwork and the appropriate resources being in place at the right time.

"Otherwise, in the immortal words of Joe Jordan, it will be 'deja vu all over again'."
