It's a jungle out there

4th February 2005 at 00:00
New teachers struggling to cope in the classroom jungle have been joined by Janet Street-Porter, journalist, broadcaster and participant in reality TV series I'm a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here. Ms Street-Porter took on the role of newly qualified teacher at Abbey Meadows primary, in Cambridgeshire, for two weeks. Her classroom efforts are featured on the Channel 5 series, So You Think You Can Teach. "The classroom was bloody good preparation for the jungle," she said. "In my day, your teacher shouted at you and sent you out. I had to learn that I can't bellow at pupils, swear at them, or hit them."
