Ivory towers and open books

IT does not suprise me that Barbara MacGilchrist, dean of initial teacher training at London's Institute of Education, is having difficulty finding students to fill her post-graduate certificate in education training courses (TES, October 13).

Perhaps her instiute's course designers should step outside their ivory towers and design a flexible, part-time modular course to suit the needs of people who live in the real world.
