(Photograph) - Jenny O'Connor, from Yew Tree primary, Walsall, was named most outstanding new primary teacher. The 27-year-old, who qualified in 1998, joined the profession after a teacher neighbour asked her to help out in the classroom. 'I aw what a difference teachers can make to children's lives and I decided I wanted to do the same,' she said. 'My school is in special measures and this award is wonderful recognition of all the work we are doing to improve things.'
