Sir Jim Rose is making a wonderful living as a government adviser, rectifying the curriculum which he was instrumental in implementing as chief inspector of schools, primary education. If memory serves me well, did he not also favour a broad approach to the teaching of reading when chief inspector, until the government of the day opted for a strong phonics approach?

But then his phonics was synthetic.
