When Crown Woods School in Eltham switched its cleaning contract to private-sector contractor Superclean, rather than Greenwich Council's in-house service, a number of the cleaning staff chose to stay with the council rather than transfer to the firm.

Strangely, when these staff returned their keys to the 215,000-square-foot school - one of the largest in the country - they had been "supercleaned" of their room numbers.
