Knight to the manor borne

4th February 2005 at 00:00
Tod is brave, fearless and noble. He can kill the enemy with one stroke of his sword. He would make the perfect NQT. Tod is the hero of a job advert placed in The TES by Preston Manor high in Brent, north London. The advert shows a picture of a knight, sword in one hand, shield across his bare chest, resting a foot on a vanquished soldier. The aim is to persuade NQTs that a life of derring-do is less desirable than a career at the Preston Manor chalkface. Andrea Berkeley, the head, said: "It's important that our teachers have a sense of humour. And we are trying to attract male teachers. Looking like a gladiator isn't part of the job spec, though it would be nice."
