A FORMER primary headteacher has pleaded guilty to forging his pupils' exam answers, claiming he was under pressure from league tables. Alan Mercer, former head of South Borough primary in Maidstone, Kent, admitted to 14 forgery offences at the town's magistrates' court this week. The court heard that he made alterations and additions to numerous key stage 2 and grammar school entrance papers in 2002, even writing answers on his pupils'
behalf. Mercer asked magistrates to take a further 140 exam paper forgeries into account.
