Letters extra: benefits of part-time work

14th September 2001 at 01:00

I am grateful that Zoe Watson has written the letter I wanted to write about the benefits of part-time or job share teachers (September 7). This week I have:

  • co-ordinated a workshop at an authority-wide in-service day for teachers in my subject;
  •
  • attended two full days of school-based in-service;
  •
  • ensured that all materials were ready for my subject;
  •
  • met my classes and taught my first lessons. I will soon be starting work on re-building and updating our departmental website.
  • As a "middle-aged woman with a husband to support me" and a full range of family responsibilities, working as a teacher in a part-time capacity for the same reasons as Zoe Watson, the only reason I didn't write that letter is that I simply didn't have the time.
