Letters extra; GCSE failures

3rd August 2001 at 01:00

So, anyone who gets less than a C is a GCSE failure (your headline, July 27). Perhaps you would care to tell this to my Year 9 set 6 students, most of whom have worked hard and will most likely gain a G, F or E in two years time and feel proud (and so will we).

Ditto the hundreds of thousands of similar students up and down the country who will do the same. Strange, because I was always under the impression that all grades G to A* were pass grades and that there was only one genuine fail, U.

May I suggest that you do the right and proper thing and apologise without delay. Choose your words more carefully next time.
