Letters extra: GTC subscription

6th July 2001 at 01:00

Apart from creating masses of bureaucracy and wasting the time of teachers (and the tax office) am I missing something too obvious to be seen? If we all have to be members of the General Teaching Council and we all have to pay for it, then why can't our salaries be increased so we don't all individually have to contact our local tax office to claw back the adjustment?

Personally I'm in favour of us all not participating and then watching us all be sacked for not being in the GTC. Now how would Estelle Morris answer the questions about the retention of teachers then?
