Letters extra: involve students in reforming AS-levels

27th July 2001 at 01:00

I am a Year 12 student and have just sat my AS exams. I think the initial idea of the AS system is good as it helps relieve pressure on next year's exams. However, more thought needs to be given to the course content and the timing, as we were under immense pressure to finish the courses in time for the exams.

After reading the suggested changes, I do not agree with the proposed three-hour exams. This will put more pressure on students and will not be effective for subjects such as maths as it will not be possible to examine all modules together.

Students and teachers should be involved in planning changes as we are the ones it will affect and have the most knowledge about the system.
