BACK to Estelle, and you may recall the panic when she got stuck in the Sanctuary Buildings lifts on her way to Commons'

education questions. (A nervous Jacqui Smith, herself about to face her first question time, had to stand by to answer on her behalf.)

So we were heartened to learn the DFEE is ugrading its lifts - even though the cost has spiralled from a pricey pound;700,000 to an alarming pound;1.4 million.

But then we discovered it was the lifts in Caxton House - the DFEE's employment wing - that were getting such lavish attention. Now the education team know just how important they are...
