Live long and prosper

Teachers' expectation of life is good - despite the pressures of the job, teachers tend to live long. Whereas in the population of England and Wales as a whole, men and women aged 60 can expect to live, on average, for a further 18.3 and 22.4 years respectively, the following table shows that teachers of the same age usually have several more years ahead of them.
