Local authority staff may strike

LOCAL authority staff in Waltham Forest, north London, may strike over the borough's privatisation plans - amid predictions that similar action could follow across the country in the autumn.

The NUT and two other unions are holding ballots this week as the council agonises over whether to contract out school improvement and many other services to a consortium that includes Nord Anglia.
