ME sufferer, Laura Pledger

3rd March 2000 at 00:00
(Photograph) - Laura Pledger, 13, of Tiverton, Devon, first noticed the symptoms of ME when she started secondary school 18 months ago and has been unable to attend for more than a year. Her teachers and classmates thought she was simply trying to get out of school and even her dctor dismissed her complaints, but a consultant in Exeter finally diagnosed her. Laura's family had to fight to win her home tuition. She still misses her friends:

"A few are sympathetic but still find it hard to understand why I can't go out with them," she said.
