European Championships

Football fever kicks off in Poland and the Ukraine today as teams from across Europe are pitted against each other in a bid to become European champion. Celebrate the sport, the contest and the countries with some language activities.

Welcome the championships with Polish greeting phrases from thetreasurebox.

Whether you refer to the championships as L'Euro or Fussball-Euromeisterschaft, mattwhoriskey's resource pack, available in French and German, gets pupils building beginner language skills by describing countries and developing player profiles.

Alternatively, try rhawkes' Futbolistas Top Trumps, helping pupils to develop Spanish skills while playing the popular game.

For some German grammar practice, try petermorris2001's Was Wird Geschehen? Pupils can revise the future tense and the verb werden by predicting what will happen during the championships.
