More cash to go higher still

The 14 per cent increase for higher education institutions over three years announced by the Executive last November will mean an extra 8.5 per cent in cash increase this coming year, the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council announced today (Friday). Thepound;672 million total for 2001-02 will increase grants for teaching and research by 4 per cent, and require higher education institutions to widen student access, "promote knowledge transfer" and improve science research infrastructure and equipment.
