More pay for classroom assistants

27th October 2006 at 01:00
I work in a school where classroom assistants were initially employed to supervise the playground and dinner hall; they didn't go near the classroom. Now we are expected to support the teachers in class in addition to all our other duties.

The teachers might draw up the lesson plans but we help to teach it. We also have more contact time with the children and are expected to take on all those extra duties that teachers have relinquished.
