More pupils, fewer staff
There were 315,000 pupils in state secondary schools, a fall of 1,700. Teacher numbers fell over the year by 400, which gave a PTR of 13.2.
The worst primary ratios were in East Renfrewshire (22.4) and the most generous in Shetland (12.7). In the secondary sector, West Dunbartonshire had the highest average PTR of 14.4 while Shetland had 7.6.
More than a third of pupils receiving special education from local authorities, 5,300, are now attending units integrated into primary and secondary schools.
