More say, more motivation

The report was broady welcomed by Alan McLean, the educational psychologist whose book The Motivated School explores many of the issues. A "motivated school" website will be launched shortly to promote and bring together good practice.

Mr McLean described the report as "comprehensive, succinct and accessible"

It did not sidestep the "big tensions" such as that between the pressure on pupils to achieve academically and the wish to lighten the examination load.

"The most innovative and potentially transforming recommendation is the one that feedback from pupils on their perception of the effectiveness of different teaching and learning styles should be integrated into teaching,"

Mr McLean suggested.
