Mother's appeal

A single mother has appealed against a fine of Pounds 1,000 imposed for failing to send her two teenage sons to school.

Carol Matthews, aged 36, said that her depression and ill health after the birth of twins two years ago was to blame for the truancy.

Ms Matthews was granted an appeal hearing this week by Woolwich crown court, in south London.
