The GTC, we can also reveal, is on its way out - of the Stakis Falkirk Park Hotel at least. Members have been pressing for business to be put the way of educational establishments rather than commercial fat cats and it looks as though Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh has won the contract, assuming the council's long search for a permanent home of its own (and a big enough room) does not bear fruit by the time of the December meeting.

But did the Stakis management have an inkling? Nothing else could surely explain the succulent muffins that made a sudden appearance along with last week's pre-meeting coffee.
