Tomos, Huw, Llio and Catrin are the most popular names for characters in Welsh children's books, according to a two-year study led by Swansea council. Language experts fed more than three million words from hundreds of books by scores of writers into a computer to identify commonly-used words and phrases. It is hoped the result - Ein Geiriau NI, a corpus of children's literature in Welsh - will help writers target future books at age groups, help develop reading tests, and result in more original Welsh literacy materials for children.
