The new EIS president

* The new EIS president is Jack Barnett, former secretary of Aberdeenshire local association and a long-serving member of numerous national EIS committees.

Following his installation at Perth, Mr Barnett said: "While Scottish education enjoys an enviable international reputation, there remains much work to be done to bring about important change which will help to deliver the best possible education system for the pupils and students of Scotland."
