New pay system could be fairer

12th May 2000 at 01:00
I AM amazed at the apparent resistance to performance-related pay. I am under the impression that to apply for posts or to gain promotion we need to have our "performance as teachers" assessed in some way.

Unfortunately, this assessment is usually based upon letters of application, nterviews and subjective appraisals. Hopefully, the new "career options" and "performance threshold" will develop into a more analytical, objective and fairer method of assessing our effectiveness as teachers than our system.
