News in brief: The pound;7m apprentices

Four colleges are among 12 organisations to win a share of pound;7 million of Government funding to set up new Apprenticeship Training Associations and Group Training Associations. Colleges at Gateshead, West Nottinghamshire, Hull and Lewisham (working with the College of North East London) have been selected to run schemes helping organisations, especially small businesses. The 12 will offer more than 14,000 apprenticeship places for young people over the next three years.
