No similarities between departures

28th April 1995 at 01:00
I write to express my concern at the inaccuracy of your April 13 report on events in Lambeth ("Director learns to do unto others").

There is no similarity at all between the departure of Bebb Burchell from Lambeth and the reasons behind Sari Conway leaving Bradford.

The former was the result of a council decision following normal consideration of the director's contract renewal; the latter a mutually agreed settlement to terminate an on-going contract.

Ms Burchell has not faced any disciplinary panel regarding the issue of school balances. The officers investigating this matter have not yet completed their report with regard to other officers who may be involved.

While Jill Stansfield is acting director of education until a permanent appointment can be made, Mrs Conway is remaining with Lambeth to complete certain projects.
