* No win, no fee legal firms are costing the education service hundreds of millions of pounds by encouraging poor parents to sue their children's schools, the NAHT has warned. Delegates unanimously backed a motion calling for an urgent review of the problem after being told the cost of payouts had reached pound;200 million last year.
Mike Millman, head of Priory primary, Dudley, said one solicitor had contacted his LEA about a legal claim for compensation only 50 minutes after a child had an accident because he was wearing "inappropriate footwear".
