Northern Irish help Romania
Thirteen Northern Irish providers of training and counselling are setting up schools for teaching arts and trades across the country through links with similar bodies in the former Eastern bloc country.
The scheme is funded by Invest Northern Ireland, the province's economic development body and backed by the British Embassy in Romania. Romania is due to become a full member of the European Union in 2007.
Annie Moore, director of Northern Ireland's Open College Network, which is backing the scheme, said: "We've visited Romania as a technical assistance body. I see huge potential for an accredited system of learning. The Romanians have been very receptive to the concept."
