Birkenhead's Prenton High School for Girls will host the UK Junior Robo Cup in March. During the competition students build and program robots to dance, play football and conduct search and rescues. Prenton is the current UK champion.

The Duchess of Cornwall congratulated pupils at Canon Burrows CofE Primary School in Greater Manchester on their award-winning idea for a special grip which extends the life of pencils usually thrown away half used. The concept bagged top prize in a national competition to reduce waste in schools. The visit coincided with National Storytelling Week and the duchess also met Taffy Thomas, the new national storytelling laureate.

A song penned by David Powell, Dorset's principal primary inspector, was sung at a concert to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Rugby commentator Will Chignell used his sporting expertise to help teenagers at Finborough School in Stowmarket develop their presentation skills. The session was part of the independent school's life skills programme, which aims to give pupils "real world" experiences.

Children at Crayke Primary School in North Yorkshire have used birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as census information, to trace their ancestors and create family trees.
