A canopied outdoor classroom is now on the cards for Kneesall Primary School in Newark, Nottinghamshire thanks to a #163;4,000 Keep It Kool school development grant. More than 700 schools entered the competition as part of a drive to champion the fight against childhood UV exposure.

Fast bowler Henry Olonga, who protested against Robert Mugabe and became the first black cricketer to play for Zimbabwe, visited Bebington High Sports College in Wirrall to discuss sports, politics and Christianity with students and staff.

Pupils and staff from Madeley Academy in Birmingham make a splash in the Dover Estuary as part of an outdoor learning and adventure week at the Outward Bound Trust Aberdovey Centre.

Pupils at Penryn College in Cornwall have joined a crusade to persuade schoolchildren to recycle their batteries. Devised by UK-based scheme European Recycling Platform (ERP), the nationwide campaign includes a three-minute film on a battery's journey, starring and narrated by Penryn pupil Ollie Osman.

Pupils and staff from Cove School in Farnborough, Hampshire, raised thousands for Breast Cancer Research through their "Wear Something Pink Day" and the midnight Playtex Moonwalk. The latter saw them trek 13.4 miles from Hyde Park, London, becoming the first school in England to do so in the process.
