Marie Cates, head of Martin Wilson Primary School, Shrewsbury, has been appointed head of Learning through Landscapes' National Network (the school grounds charity).

Simon Horsley, deputy head of Sibford School, Banbury, Oxfordshire, has been appointed head of Frewen College, near Rye, East Sussex, from September 1. Frewen is an independent specialist school for pupils with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia).

Batya Parker is the winner of the national Independent Library Learner Award 1997. Mrs Parker has overcome limited mobility to complete a degree in psychology and education, a postgraduate certificate in education and two research projects, all using the facilities of Stamford Hill Library, London E8.
